Sun Hung Kai Properties Group (SHKP) and HSBC have announced that the future Shanghai International Finance Centre, will house HSBC China's headquarters.

Subject to final agreements and legal doings it has been suggested that one of the towers in the landmark project be renamed HSBC Building - Shanghai IFC. It is also expected for HSBC to occupy 20 floors within the tower totalling a 53,000 square metres of office space.

The complex will be located in Lujiazui, the financial heart of Pudong, the area of Shanghai known for becoming a rival to Manhattan in the space of only a decade.

Designed by the firm of Cesar Pelli, Pelli Clarke Pelli, the plans have gone back to the drawing board several times, until they finally settled on to having a trio of towers.

These will consist of two twin skyscrapers standing at 260 metres and 250 metres respectively and a smaller tower will stand at 85 metres. Features of the towers will include, 210,000 metres square of grade A office space which will have near-unobstructed views of the Huangpu River and the historical Bund and Oriental Pearl TV Tower thanks to its virtually column free floor plates.

Two Hotels, The Ritz Carlton which will have 276 rooms and W Hotel Group which will have 380 rooms taking up approximately 90,000 square metres of space within the towers.

As with most projects of this nature, shopaholics are also catered for thanks to plans for a shopping mall packed with a selection of internationally known retailers taking up 6 floors (100,000 square metres) four will be located above ground level and the other two floors below also, there will be sufficient parking spaces for 2000 eager shoppers, workers and residents of the towers.

SHKP have vast experience in developing high quality, large scale complexes and no corner has been cut with them using top notch architects and internationally known interior designers for this project that displays both SHKP's and HSBC's commitment and confidence both in China's economy and Shanghai's future prospects as it continues to emerge on the world stage.

Completion is expected in phases from 2009 - 2010 with the first phase including 80,000 square metres of office, residential and retail space.
